April, May, early June, October and early November are peak — expect Saturday site fees in the $4,000 to $12,000 range at established properties. July and August drop substantially because a 4 p.m. ceremony in 92-degree humidity is a real consideration, not a hypothetical one.
The number that surprises couples is the rain plan. If the venue's indoor backup is smaller than your guest list, you are renting a tent, and a proper sailcloth or frame tent with sidewalls, lighting and flooring for 150 guests typically runs $6,000 to $15,000 in this market. Many venues require the tent call to be made 7 to 14 days out, which means you may pay for it on a day that ends up sunny.
Budget for the things that make outdoors work: string lighting or uplighting once the sun drops, fans or heaters depending on the month, a generator if the property does not have adequate power at the ceremony site, restrooms if the nearest facilities are a walk away, and ground protection for heels on grass. None of these appear on the site fee and all of them show up on the final total.
Where to look
Northside — Alpharetta, Roswell and Milton — holds the largest concentration of manicured lawn and garden properties with mature landscaping and covered pavilions already built in.
East of the city, Covington, Conyers and Social Circle offer the open-field and farm settings that suit tented receptions and long ceremony aisles, generally with more permissive noise cutoffs than intown venues.
Intown, the outdoor options are terraces, courtyards and garden houses in Decatur, Midtown and along the BeltLine. They are beautiful and convenient, but capacity is smaller, sound ordinances are strict, and you are usually working with a hard 10 or 11 p.m. music curfew.
